Customercase: Klaver Flowers
Back to overview“We know exactly how many stems we can process in a day.”
For as long as Gert-Jan Klaver can remember, Klaver Flowers has been using Bercomex machines. Together with his sister Lydia, he represents the third generation within the family business. The Bercomex machines play a crucial role in new developments, as they have once again demonstrated. Since February 2023, a Furora has been in operation, allowing Klaver Flowers to make significant advancements in productivity, quality, and flexibility.
The story of Klaver Flowers traces back to grandfather Klaver. A century ago, he began growing vegetables in Heerhugowaard. He also built a greenhouse for cultivating strawberries. After many successful years, he passed the reins to his sons, who shifted their focus to flower cultivation. To efficiently process these flowers, they invested in Bercomex machines. Since the turn of the century, Gert-Jan and Lydia have been in charge, with a focus on lilies. The family business spans fourteen hectares of greenhouses. The lilies are sold through the flower auction and a large portion is exported to England.
Knowledge and costs
Klaver Flowers faces the challenge of remaining relevant in a slowly changing market. Currently, it is difficult to find skilled employees. “We rely heavily on foreign temporary workers. Since they often stay in the Netherlands for only a short period, we cannot retain their knowledge. Additionally, we risk pricing ourselves out of the market due to rising labor costs,” explains Gert-Jan. “We knew that fellow grower Bredefleur was pioneering with the Furora. When we heard about the positive results, we dared to invest in this machine too.”
