Growing through automation
It all started in 2006 when Van Aert Flowers purchased their first processing line from Van den Berg, now part of Bercomex. A second bunching line followed in 2010, and in 2014, the first Furora Nova was installed. That didn’t come without challenges, but the willingness to develop together was strong. “At one point I even said: this is never going to work. But now we can’t do without it.” Over the years, several Furoras have been added, and a strong partnership has grown between Van Aert Flowers and Bercomex. The machines are crucial for producing uniform bunches of consistent quality, something that’s far more labour-intensive and time-consuming when done by hand.
The strength of the Furora
What Van Aert Flowers values most about the Furora is its unique processing method. “There’s no competitor with a machine that compares to this.” The machine automatically separates large volumes, sorts accurately by stem length and flower size, removes leaves, and can be adjusted to specific customer requirements. Even with challenging varieties like Astilbe, the Furora Nova delivers impressive performance. Thanks to automation, flowers that might otherwise have been discarded as residual product can now still be auctioned.
“The quality simply has to be perfect, and that machine is part of that.”
"Thanks to the system integrations, we now have real insight into performance and sorting."
